Chapter Eighteen
âStop fidgeting.â Lairgnen didnât have to look at Gen to see how excited he was. The chair they shared squeaked and shook from his movements. Instead, he focused his attention on the scenery below them.
They were flying above the Thréinfhir property, which he and Gen had just closed the deal on. The early morning mists had been burned off the ground by the sun, and Lairgnen could clearly see the three rivers that Gen had told him about. No wonder Gen and his mother had coveted the Thréinfhir lands. It was prime property. The rivers were not big enough for commercial use, but they provided easy transportation between the Toullec, Bolton, and Thréinfhir properties.
Upon their arrival at the manor, Princess Maella hadnât wasted time on small talk. After exchanging greetings, she led Lairgnen and Gen to the morning room, where two of her brehens were waiting for them. Documents for transfer of property had already been drawn out and ready for their signatures. Lairgnen had read over the contract, pleasantly surprised when Gen pointed out the same points of discussion that he had found. It was a simple sale contract, and once the price was agreed upon, seals were pressed. Maella excused herself, simply stating her transporter was ready to take her back to the capital. One hour later, Lairgnen and Gen had the papers and keys to the property.
âIâm just nervous, Lair. And excited. And scared. What if someone had approached Maella and made her an offer she couldnât refuse?â
âNo one did.â
âYou sound so calm and unaffected. Why canât I be like you?â Gen threw up his hands and slumped back into his seat.
âYou have to be of a certain age.â Lairgnen smirked when Gen rolled his eyes.
âYou mean old?â
âBrat,â Lairgnen teased. âIs the property that important to you?â
âI can still remember Mother getting frustrated whenever we passed by its borders. She had dreams. So yes, it is that important to me.â
âThen we did well.â Lairgnen smiled and waggled his brow. âMaella not only had documents drawn out ready for us to sign, but she also lowered the buying price so we wouldnât get a chance to change our minds. As you said back in Trennet Coast, she was in a hurry. Also, you have to remember that the Thréinfhirs are royals, so no one can just come in and offer to buy their property. The worst-case scenario was if the bank had pulled the property, all they could have done is to inform the king and allow him to purchase it from them. Should he refuse, they would have to go through the hierarchy of royals. With over twenty thousand members, that can take years.â
âI didnât know they had to do that,â Gen said, understanding lighting up his eyes. âSee? Thatâs why I need to take up law. Why didnât I know about that particular detail? Why didnât Maella?â
âAll right, youâve made your point.â Lairgnen chuckled.
He ran the tip of his finger down Genâs cheek and followed the path with a kiss.
